What's on the Web?

All Movie Guide www.allmovie.com
Well-organized, this site has some summary bios and separate tabs for
the plot summary, reviews, awards, cast and credits of a movie. All Movie
Guide's stars are included, but the left column also includes a section
called "flags" that could be labeled red flags and the next sections down
have keywords, themes, and tone (yeah, I'm not sure either) that will also
give some ideas of content.

Christian Spotlight on Entertainment christiananswers.net/spotlight/home.html
Very nice looking site with some critical thinking in the reviews, although
not as detailed for content as Kids-in-mind. It offers good information on
the spiritual aspects of a film.

Decent Films www.decentfilms.com
This nicely designed site uses reviews from multiple sources, including the
National Catholic Review and Christianity Today.

The Dove Foundation www.dove.org
These reviews are also offer Christian family viewpoints.
The reviews are clear, easily understood and well-reasoned.
Many films are not reviewed, but those that are have good content.

Family Style Film Guide www.familystyle.com
Quick brief information offering a graph showing areas of nudity and sex
(separate), violence, drugs/alcohol (a single category), and profanity with
boxes below explaining a bit more. Also offers other sites' reviews by stars
given. Clean and clear.

Insultingly Stupid Movie Physics www.intuitor.com/moviephysics/
This site is just so much fun we had to include it. Plus, we all can learn
from it, or at least get back to solid ground after seeing some flight of
fantasy supposedly future-tech pic. A few of the ratings are: GP for Good
Physics, PGP for Pretty Good Physics, RP for Retch, XP for "Obviously
Physics from an Unknown Universe." Their #1 pick? The Core.
Recommended because it's so bad, it's good.

Internet Movie Database www.imdb.com
One of the best! Searchable for actor, director, title, plot, keyword, and
more! Lists the cast for each movie along with a short plot, MMPA ratings,
as well as how the movie rated with the public, etc. Bookmark this one.

Kids in mind www.kids-in-mind.com/
Ratings in three categories: sex & nudity, violence & gore, & profanity, with
very detailed information on the instances of each. Spread down the page
with advertising, it is not pretty but lots of info.

Metacritic Metacritic.com
This site proposes to evaluate film and DVD, music, games, books, and
TV. However, older material is mostly not included. Current musicians
such as Josh Groban and Harry Connick are not included. Star Wars
movies are all there, but none of the books. Search the Lord of the Rings
and you get the movies, the games but only Children of Hubrin in books.
What is there is good, but the holes are just too huge to ignore. Use
sparingly.

Parent Previews www.parentpreviews.com
This site breaks its parental advice down into categories of violence,
sexual content, language, and drugs/alcohol, with an overall score.

Plugged In Online www.pluggedinonline.com
Focus on the Family is the parent organization for this site, which also
features radio spots on Family Life radio stations. While this site is clean
and attractive, results are not displayed in a quick or quantifiable form.
Evaluations are thorough and well-done, with a conclusion and sections
on positive and negative elements as well as the usual sexual, crude or
profane, violent, and drug or alcohol content. This is the only site seen
which offers evaluation of spiritual content.

Rotten Tomatoes www.rottentomatoes.com
Not quite as good as IMDb, this site is not as user-friendly, doesn't feature
some of the older or more obscure titles, and can be really garish and too
busy to focus on what you want. Still, it gives more review info than IMDb,
so it has its uses.
